چکیده

Abstract We study wave-current interactions in two-dimensional water flows of constant vorticity over a flat bed. For large-amplitude periodic traveling gravity waves that propagate at the surface same direction as underlying current (downstream waves), we prove explicit uniform bounds for their amplitude. In particular, our estimates show maximum amplitude becomes vanishingly small increases without limit. also downstream on global bifurcating branch are never overhanging, and mass flux Bernoulli uniformly bounded.

Large-Amplitude Solitary Water Waves with Vorticity

We provide the first construction of exact solitary waves of large amplitude with an arbitrary distribution of vorticity. We use continuation to construct a global connected set of symmetric solitary waves of elevation, whose profiles decrease monotonically on either side of a central crest. This generalizes the classical result of Amick and Toland.

Steady Water Waves

The classical water wave problem concerns the irrotational flow of a perfect fluid of unit density subject to the forces of gravity and surface tension. The fluid motion is described by the Euler equations in a domain bounded below by a rigid horizontal bottom {y = −h} and above by a free surface which is described as a graph {y = η(x, z, t)}, where the function η depends upon the two horizonta...

Steady Water Waves

We present a survey of certain aspects of the theory of steady water waves with emphasis on the role played by vorticity. Historical background, numerical illustrations, and brief discussions of the time-dependent problem and of approximate models are included as well.

Solitary water waves of large amplitude generated by surface pressure

We consider exact nonlinear solitary water waves on a shear flow with an arbitrary distribution of vorticity. Ignoring surface tension, we impose a non-constant pressure on the free surface. Starting from a uniform shear flow with a flat free surface and a supercritical wave speed, we vary the surface pressure and use a continuation argument to construct a global connected set of symmetric soli...

Stratified Steady Periodic Water Waves

This paper considers two-dimensional stratified water waves propagating under the force of gravity over an impermeable flat bed and with a free surface. We prove the existence of a global continuum of classical solutions that are periodic and traveling. These waves, moreover, can exhibit large density variation, speed and amplitude. 1. Introduction. Stratification is a common feature of ocean w...
